Howick Camera Club‘s April Set subject is Abstract. Now, I have to admit that this is very much outside of my comfort zone. It is ingrained in me to take sharp, precise images showing exactly what the subject is in a well balanced way.
Many of the entrants confused impressionism with abstract, and were unfortunately marked down on some absolutely stunning images for non-compliance with the set subject.
This is the shot I entered, as a 4×12″ print, beautifully pedestal matted:
We had Shona Kebble (one of our very own HCC members) as the judge on the night, and she was tough! This image received a Highly Commended.
For the Open subject I entered a print of a shot I took out the window while travelling around the Coromandel in a campervan over Easter. I am really in love with this, and intend on displaying it in my house if I can find some spare wall space. It received a Highly Commended.
Hopefully I will manage to enter some digital images for the 18th April. I always struggle with taking images specifically for digital use, and we will be away so I have to submit them before then.
